I first became curious about CranioSacral Therapy when I was a student in massage school in 1993. One of my instructors gave me an introduction to this type of touch, and I was floored at the amount of difference such a light touch could make.
Several years later, as an instructor of Anatomy, I taught a similar hour-long intro to my students. Then through the years, I began receiving massage sessions that included more and more CST.
Over the years, my children all received CST with wonderful results, helping out with reflux, attention-related issues, and injuries. This was what propelled me to study CST in depth.
Fast forward several years, and I began suffering from post-partum depression, nausea, and headaches. It turned out that these symptoms were structurally caused by the sacrum (base of spine) being limited in its natural movement. CranioSacral Therapy eliminated the issues. At that point I was certain that this was my calling; to continue coursework and focus my practice on CranioSacral therapy. I have studied CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release (SER) extensively, and continue to advance my skills through continuing education and mentoring. I have also received my CranioSacral Therapy Techniques certification through the Upledger Institute.
I am also a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, certified with the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute (www.traumahealing.com). Somatic Experiencing focuses on how trauma is stored in the body, and how the nervous system can be addressed to heal that trauma. It utilizes the Polyvagal Theory developed by Stephen Porges. This method was highly beneficial to me, and I watch daily with my clients how helpful it is to their process of healing.
I have also taken coursework in Inner Relationship Focusing (IRF), which centers and encourages the inner experience of the client. I incorporate its methods into my practice, as well.
Together, we work towards wholeness.
